The D’orica guide to our surroundings

Vicenza

Known in the world for being home to some of the finest italian goldsmiths, Vicenza also is famous for the work of Andrea Palladio, one of the most influential personalities in the history of Western architecture. The city was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. We recommend visiting Vicenza following an architectural itinerary: the Basilica Palladiana, the Teatro Olimpico with the scenes designed by Scamozzi (one of Palladio’s heirs) and the Rotonda, the most famous villa among those designed by the renowned Paduan architect.
If you become hungry during the journey, stop in Contrà Paolo Lioy and take a refreshing break in “Ai Monelli.”

Marostica

Marostica is a charming town surrounded by splendid views, lovely to behold especially from the top of the Castello Superiore. The fortress was built in the fourteenth century to control the roads coming from Bassano, Vicenza and Breganze. In the courtyard of the castle you will find our favorite restaurant. Just a short walk away, in the square in front of the Castello Inferiore Castle, “La Casa del Parmigiano” is a must for cheese lovers.

Bassano del Grappa

This town with a troubled past because of the frequent changes of domination, has more recently played an important role in both World Wars. Bassano is fascinating to explore in the evening, strolling through the streets of the historic center.
We in D’orica frequently visit Bassano and we can give you an excellent advice: eat and drink at the “Ottocento” restaurant, in Contrà San Giorgio, and at the beer pub “Da Ottone”, in Via Giacomo Matteotti. If you want to shop go to “La Bottega Del Baccalà”, in Via Giacomo Matteotti, specialized in stockfish and deriving products, and at the “Carteria Tassotti” in Ferracina, a shop selling prints dating from 1657 to 1861.
