D’orica meets Alberto Zambelli
The learning of the past, the passion of today and the innovation of the future: these are the guiding principles of “The Ethical Silk Road”, a project undertaken by D’orica which, after 50 years in business, has re-established silk production in Italy, restructuring the entire production cycle.
The initiative was launched in 2014 in collaboration with a number of social agricultural cooperatives involved in sericulture and the invaluable contribution of Crea di Padova, the world’s centre of excellence for promoting sericulture. Its first step was the acquisition and redevelopment of a spinning mill dating back to the 1960s, the only one of its kind in use in Europe, which offers automatic control of the diameter of the thread, essential for the creation of high quality silk. The mill was set up to handle the Italian-produced cocoons, thus obtaining 100% Italian silk.
The FW 18/19 edition of Milano Unica was full of novelty and wonder as a result of a collaboration between D’orica and Italian designer Alberto Zambelli, member of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (the National Chamber for Italian Fashion) and among the best Made in Italy fashion talents.
The star of the show was the tunic dress in natural, ethical silk, enriched with decorations by Daniela Raccanello from the D’orica creative team. The high-quality couture and unique finish offered a fusion of silk and gold to give a stunning and unprecedented result.
